A major 6.1 earthquake hit off the coast of Honshu, Japan on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 10:49:24 UTC, at a depth of 9.5 km (5.9 mi).  This is the fourth major (> 5.9) earthquake to hit in the last week, three of which hit on March 14.
